June 2004 Newsletter

We know... the kids have been home for a few weeks now and you're longing for the first day of school!

Don't wish summer away - instead try one or all of the following ten tried and true recipes for family fun:

1. Set up a lemonade stand and go into business

2. Make your own popsicles using juice in dixie cups and inserting a craft stick. Make them a day ahead so they can freeze hard.

3.Play hookey from work and take the kids to the beach or lake. Sing "You Are My Sunshine" as you roll down the highway.

4.Make a Hairy Harry: You will need a styrofoam or paper cup, scissors, construction paper, markers, glue, buttons, potting soil and rye grass seed. Step One: Cut eyes, cars, mouth, nose, etc. from construction paper and glue in place on the cup. Colour the cup with markers and glue on buttons for a fancy touch. Step Two: Fill the cups about twothirds full of potting soil and plant the rye grass seeds in the soil. Place the cups in a sunny place and water regularly. Hairy Harry will begin to grow "hair" in about seven days.

5.Make a Beach in a Bottle. Add one inch of sand and small sea shells to the bottom of a water bottle. Mix a few drops of blue food coloring to some water and carefully pour into the bottle using a funnel. Hang a tiny fish-shaped fishing lure from a strand of fishing line, and glue on the cap.

6. Have the gang over for a stargazing sleepover party in the back yard.

7. Visit the local museum and enjoy the air conditioning.

8. Jump through the sprinkler (adults join in!).

9. Have a family `Guts Monopoly' tournament where all dirty deals and cheating are legal!

10.Make banana splits - the real kind, with a whole banana, three kinds of ice cream, whipped cream and nuts. Later, go for a run to salve your conscience.
